Christopher Columbus, navigator and explorer, 1492 vs today. On Dec 12, during its scheduled monthly meeting, the Watertown Sons and Daughters of Italy hosted a talk by Matteo Cassini, professor at Suffolk University and UMass Boston. There is little doubt as to Columbus’ significance stemming from his voyage which led to discovery of the new world, the America’s, as well as the significance to immigrants in general, to Italian Americans, to the US and to the world. There are many examples of his namesake, including our nation’s capital, The District of Columbia. In more recent times though there has been controversy. The talk was enlightening as professor Cassini highlighted Columbus’ timeline which also generated some spirited discussion with attendees. At the conclusion, the food and refreshments made the whole evening worthwhile. We are a fraternal, charitable and social order comprised of a group of more than 400 men and women members.

Located at 520 Pleasant Street in Watertown, Massachusetts, the Member’s Lounge is open Monday – Wednesday and Friday from 6:00pm until 11:30pm.

Regular Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month starting at 7:30pm.
